Key equipment and processes:
Electron Beam Melting (EBM) ARCAM Q10 With a build envelope of 200 x 200 x 180mm, CBM’s Arcam Q10 can produce small to medium-size components with fine detail. The Q10 has been designed specifically for implant manufacture and developed for easy powder handling and fast turn-around times. The EBM process takes place under a vacuum and at elevated temperatures which results in stress-relieved implants with properties better than cast and comparable to wrought materials. Components are built in Titanium Ti6Al4V which is certified to the USP Class VI standard for biocompatibility and is extensively used for FDA and CE marked implants.
Large Format Stereolithography (SLA) SLA 5000 With a large build envelope of 508 x 508 x 584mm, the Standard layer thickness is 0.1mm, however the Extreme definition layer thickness can be as small as 0.05mm. CBM’s SLA 5000 can produce large cost-effective 3D models in the shortest possible lead times, and runs the excellent Somos Watershed XC Clear build material which exhibits properties that mimic ABS. The material is certified to USP VI standard for biocompatibility and is extensively used for maxillofacial laboratory model production and precision crown and bridge dental models.
Medium Format Stereolithography (SLA) SLA 250 2x CBM has two SLA 250s at its disposal. With a build envelope of 250 x 250 x 250mm – Standard layer thickness of 0.1mm – CBM offers Perform the very latest generation filled SLA material by Somos. This ground-breaking material is strong & stiff and exhibits ceramic like properties. PerForm is well suited for demanding high load, high temperature applications. The material is extensively used by our clients for wind tunnel testing and the rapid creation of complex components for use in demanding environments such as under bonnet applications.
Multi Jet Technology ProJet 3500 HD MAX CBM’s Pro Jet 3500 HD MAX has a build envelope 298 x 185 x 203mm, capable of producing layer thickness down to 16μ and 1600dpi. In addition to its standard ABS mimic material Crystal, CBM’s ProJet is also capable of building in Pro-Cast which has been specifically developed for the production of sacrificial investment patterns. Due to the intricate build capabilities of this technology it is now possible to manufacture geometries that have been previously unattainable using traditional methods.
Artec Spider The Artec Spider is ultra-portable scanning technology which effectively captures the most intricate details including colour and texture. With a scanning accuracy of up to 50 microns and up to 100 microns of resolution, this system is well suited to a wide range of industries including aerospace, automotive, medical, heritage preservation and many others.
Steinbichler COMET L3D 5M – Blue Light 3D Scanning The blue light fringe projection technology of the Steinbichler Comet L3D offers a high-performance solution and opens up new dimensions in efficient 3D data acquisition. With a mesh point spacing of 18 microns the process delivers excellent data quality and highly accurate result. The Comet L3D 5M is also ideal for demanding applications in quality control and inspection.
Platinum FaroArm The FARO Scan Arm combines all of the advantages of the FaroArm with a hand-held laser scanner and is the perfect contact/non-contact measurement system. Unlike other scanning systems, the Scan Arm’s hard probe and the Laser Line Probe can digitize interchangeably without having to remove either component. Users can accurately measure prismatic features with the hard probe, then laser scan sections requiring larger volumes of data — all in one simple tool.
CBM’s 4ft platinum arm offers a single point accuracy of ±.013 mm.
