Summary

The Welder & Fabrication Technician will weld and repair Aircraft Components, fulfil Critical Component repair for Ground Support Equipment and manufacture Special to Type Lifting Tackle for MOD and support any engineering tasking as required by DECA.

Job description

1.*Carry out all tasks to a high professional standard in accordance with approved source information (ASI) and customer requirements.
2.*Provide Subject Matter Expert advice to other members of the organisation for new work and existing work opportunities as required.
3.*Carry out full and comprehensive surveys and compile reports giving full details of capability to complete tasks, materials and quantities required, specialised tooling, spares and consumable items.
4.*Ensure all tasks are carried out in accordance with relevant technical drawings, BS and Defence Standards.
5.*Manufacture of Special to Type Lifting Equipment in accordance with supplied drawings.
6.*Legally responsible and self-certifying for any work carried out daily.
7.*Carry out critical component repair on all types of Aircraft Ground Support Equipment.
8.*Understanding of the Standards required for Aviation engineering such as MAOS¹
9.*Ensure all work undertaken is compliant as defined in the DECA Business System and with all Statutory COSHH, Health, Safety and Environmental protection instructions.
10.*Ensure all legal and auditable work documents such F700 series, Baan paperwork and Engineering Record Cards are completed correctly.
11.*Ensure before use inspection of machinery as required under PUWER regulations are carried out.
12.*Support other departments within DECA with welding, fabrication and general engineering tasks.
13.*Undertake any specialist and mandatory training including the 6 monthly aviation and 3-yearly critical MAG welding re-qualification tests and ensure qualification is to a required standard in order to carry out duties.
14.*Maintain a tidy workplace with correct tool control.
15.*Certify that tasks are carried out in accordance with work instructions.
16.*Maintain and store correctly and safely materials including metal, spares and POL.
17.*Understand and comply with statutory, quality and organisational requirements for safety, documentation and occupational health and safety.
18.*Understand the importance of Compliance in Aviation Engineering.
19.*Reverse engineer and document and create drawings on legacy equipment where documentation and drawings are unavailable.

Responsibilities

1. Understand the structure, properties and characteristics of materials used in the machine shop for manufacture, maintenance and repair of aircraft components and ground equipment.
2. Read, interpret and understand engineering data, drawings and Air Publications.
3. Provide other engineers with support and solutions for manufacturing issues.
4. Carry out job surveys for Customer Services, consisting of capability of carrying out the task, required material quantities and specifications, spares and consumables, timescales and tooling.
5. Certify that tasks are carried out in accordance with work instructions.
6. Maintain and store correctly and safely materials including metal, spares and POL.
7. Undertake further specialised and mandatory training to fulfil role.
8. Understand the importance of Compliance in Aviation Engineering.
9. Ensure all work undertaken follows the quality and organisational procedures as defined in the DECA business system documentation and complies with all statutory COSHH, occupational health and safety, and environmental protection instructions.This position is advertised at 37 hours per week

Skills and Experiences

Qualifications and experience in Metal Active Gas welding to Critical Standard, Tungsten Inert Gas welding to Aircraft Standard, Manual Metallic Arc welding, Gas cutting & Welding and Braising, Use of manual Plasma cutter.
•*Skilled in the operation and use of all tools, materials and machinery in the Fabrication Bay and thorough knowledge of engineering principles and practices.
•*Understand, interpret and work from Technical Drawings and instructions.
•*Ability to use Microsoft Office.
•*James trained to minimum of Leading Maintainer role and also knowledge of Baan and TDOL.
•*Trained in the use MHE and Overhead Gantry Crane.
•*Able to work alone on tasks using own experience and skills.
•*Ability to understand and interpret a wide source of drawings, technical documents and Air Publications and plan work in using and programming all types of CNC Machinery.
