Rachel is the Head of Marketing at engineering firm FAUN Trackway Limited, based on Anglesey, North Wales. Operating within the Aerospace and Defence sectors, the Company designs and manufactures sustainable Trackway® solutions to assist aircraft and vehicles to land, take-off and manoeuvre on ground that requires stabilising. Having worked for the Company for over a decade, Rachel is a Chartered Marketer, and holds Member status at the Chartered Institute of Marketing (MCIM).

Nick Tyson MEd. CEng. MIET

Nick joined the College in 1999 as Aerospace lecturer following a successful Engineering career at Airbus and Raytheon. He has played a leading role in the development of engineering and construction skills provision. He was recently seconded to a commercial role with the University of Sheffield – AMRC Wales. The placement enabled Nick to support the development of the research centre in Broughton and establish a team dedicated to Digital Technologies across many manufacturing sectors. Nick is a Learning Area Lead Inspector with Estyn. His current role a Vice Principal in Coleg Cambria allows him to help steer the largest Aerospace skills provision in the UK.

Dr Rosie Cane

Space Wales
Rosie joined Space Wales as Cluster Development Manager in January 2023. She has a PhD in Astrobiology from the University of Edinburgh, first-class degree in Astronomy from the University of South Wales and a keen interest in the development of skills in the UK space sector. Rosie completed a Space Placement in Industry with the UK Space Agency in 2020, and has since worked with companies UK Launch Services Limited and Exotopic on projects including sustainable aviation, spaceport development and hands-on training for the space industry. Rosie has an excellent track record of STEM outreach and education, alongside technical and business development expertise, which she is using to drive forward the development of the space sector in Wales.

David Chapman, CCMP

Triumph
David Chapman, CCMP, Director for Global MRO of Triumph’s Actuation Products and Services Division, having its UK head office in Deeside Wales. The Deeside facility is a word leader in uplocks and other actuation products, including Hydraulic and Electro-Mechanical equipment. David has progressed from being a boat mechanic in 2003, through to a trainee manufacturing engineer at GKN in Telford and Rolls-Royce in Loughborough, securing a Manufacturing Engineering degree from Loughborough University in 2010. Since then, David has taken a number of customer facing roles in companies such as Meggitt, Serco and now Triumph. David is committed to driving investment in manufacturing and people due to the help and assistance he has had during his career, from both peers and mentors. David also holds an Diploma in Management and has held an active membership of the World of Commerce and Contracting (WCC) for the last decade, holding a number of posts including Council Representative for the UAE, and Chair of the Negotiation Committee, and is currently responsible for Triumph global membership of the WCC. Outside of work David spends his time with his wife and three daughters, seeking every opportunity to engage with nature via camping and foraging...and occasionally watching the Rugby!”

Helen is Senior Business Development Manager for BAE Systems Land UK based at the Glascoed site in South Wales. Helen has been with the company for 16 years and started as Commercial Manager in 2007 interfacing directly with customers and multifunctional teams before moving into a governance role with the BD function. Helen recently took up the role of Senior BD Manager where she is focussed on business growth within the Heavy Bombs & Payloads IDT. Helen is married to Clive with 2 grown up sons.

Dr Rukshan Navaratne

Cardiff University
Rukshan obtained his PhD in Aerospace Engineering at Cranfield University and currently working as a Reader and Leading the Aerospace Propulsion Research at Cardiff University. Before joining academia, he has spent much of his career working as an Engineer, Project Manager and Senior Executive in aerospace industry. His current research focuses on the development of novel electric propulsion systems, electrical machine modelling, and design optimisation of advanced novel propulsion systems. Rukshan use variety of numerical and experimental tools and techniques to develop propulsion technologies from initial conception through increasing levels of technology readiness with a constant view towards commercialization and real-world use. Also, he is a consultant to several local and international organisations. Rukshan is a Chartered Engineer and Member of IMechE (UK), ASME, and AIAA.

Gavin is the Head of Engineering, Technology and Quality for BAE Systems Munitions of Land (UK) based at the Glascoed site in South Wales, UK. Gavin leads a multi-disciplined team of engineers and scientists focused on new technology, product development and support to manufacture. He has been with the company for 18 years having joined on the BAE Systems graduate scheme in 2001 and has held various roles in engineering delivery roles. He has just returned from secondment from the Maritime Services business in Portsmouth to the engineering functional lead role. He obtained his degree in Mechanical Engineering from Loughborough University in 2001 and obtained his Chartered status in 2008. Gavin is married to Carys and they have two young children, Mali and Ellie. In his free time, Gavin likes running, cycling and walking the hills with the family dog Jac.

Carol Featherston

Carol holds a Chair in Lightweight Structures at Cardiff University School of Engineering where she has worked for over 20 years. Prior to joining the university she worked for British Aerospace and ICI Chemicals, completing a PhD with Rolls Royce looking at aeroengine fan blades. She leads the School of Engineering’s Sustainable Transport Research Theme, which examines all aspects related to decarbonising the transport sector, including vehicles, infrastructure and smart mobility. Her research focusses on the design and optimisation of lightweight structures and the development of autonomous structural health monitoring systems for diagnosis and prognosis of damage.
