Systems Meets Milestones on New Parachutes for French Forces |
Eurosatory, Paris - 14th June 2010 - Airborne Systems, a world leader
in parachute systems, has completed successfully the first three project
milestones in the programme to deliver a new troop parachute system for
the French airborne forces, it was announced at Eurosatory today.
The 'Ensemble de Parachutage du Combattant' (EPC) is replacing a parachute
system that has been in service for more than 20 years. Airborne Systems
won the multi-million Euro contract from the Direction Générale
de l'Armement (DGA) procurement executive of the French Ministry of Defence
earlier this year - the first Airborne Systems contract in France - to
deliver more than 15,000 parachute systems as part of a multi-year programme.

Identifying
High Wires |
A South Wales manufacturer is using ultraviolet and inkjet technology
to mark wires for identification purposes in aircraft.
An aircraft contains hundreds of miles of electrical wires, which need
to be easily identifiable at any point to facilitate the initial production
of the wiring harness, as it is known, and its subsequent maintenance.
Colour coding is impractical because of the large number of wires, so
each wire is given a unique alphanumeric code, which is marked at regular
intervals down its length. Previously, this marking was done by the hot
stamp method - a glorified typewriter approach where embossed characters
are used to transfer ink from a foil on to the wire by stamping it under
pressure into the surface of the wire insulation.
