Wales home to six out of the world's top ten aerospace and defence companies
For some time we have pushed the message that Wales is home to six out of the world's top twenty aerospace and defence companies and this fact has been included in speeches made by Rhodri Morgan and Andrew Davies. This fact is no longer true since in the latest Flight league table based on 2003 turnover Wales now plays host to six out of the top ten aerospace and defence companies in the world.
For reference they are:
General Electric (Nantgarw)
General Dynamics (Blackwood)
Thales (St Asaph & Bodelwyddan)
Airbus is 80% owned by EADS and 20% by BAE Systems and is described as "an EADS joint venture with BAE Systems". The parent companies also have other operations in Wales - EADS (Cogent Systems) and BAE Systems (Royal Ordnance Glascoed and the Hawk Synthetic Training Facility at RAF Valley).
